Children’s Therapist, Part-time (SLC)

Location: Salt Lake City

House of Hope is seeking a fully licensed experienced part-time therapist to work with young children with trauma and multiple risk factors in residential and outpatient care. House of Hope, established in 1953 to help women with substance use and mental health disorders and to strengthen families, is hiring a therapist to provide services for children (0-8 years) and parents to promote healthy relationships and attachment, age appropriate mental, emotional and developmental skills and various therapeutic services for those families participating in the House of Hope continuum of care.

Duties:  

  • Complete basic mental health and developmental assessments for children ages 0-8.
  • Create treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, discharge summaries and other standard paperwork meeting Medicaid requirements.
  • Maintain play therapy room in good order with materials and resources needed to treat families.
  • Work primarily with toddlers, preschoolers, and K-2 school age children individually and in small groups.
  • Work with mother/child dyads to promote healthy relationships using PCIT, filial therapy or other best practice models for high-risk children and families.
  • Work with mothers in treatment who have experienced extensive traumas that impact parenting or issues surrounding pregnancy, postpartum issues, or grief from loss of a child.
  • Observe and evaluate interactions and attachment for children reunifying with mothers from foster or kin ship care and document assessments professionally.
  • Attend meetings with other organizations to report and navigate multiple systems such as Family Recovery Court, DCFS, DDI Vantage, Children’s Center, etc.
  • Provide training to staff on working with mothers and children with extensive trauma history.
  • Present to community groups occasionally on working with children impacted by parental SUD.
  • Collaborate with HOH administration and clinical directors to create best possible environment for children in residential or outpatient care.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree and Utah licensure in good standing as LCSW, CMHC or MFT.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a therapist working with young children.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with each family’s HOH team.
  • Experience in play therapy modalities and prefer best practices for infant mental health, early childhood, young school age as well as working with parent/child dyad to promote healthy relationships.
  • Experience working with high-risk families with histories of homelessness, poverty, domestic violence, abuse, trauma, incarceration and other legal issues as well as SUD/mental health disorders.
  • Proficient in professional timely documentation to meet Medicaid standards.
  • Organized, creative, multi-tasker, who is calm in a crisis and proficient at problem solving.
  • Ability to coach and motivate other staff to reach professional goals working with children.
  • Excellent assertive communication skills, verbally and in writing.
  • Intrepid, positive, flexible personality with an active sense of humor.
  • Most importantly, has a passion for working on a collaborative team to help women and children in need.

 Pay Range: Based on education, experience and licensure.  Voluntary dental and vision insurance available.

Hours: 16-24 hours/week with some flexibility, M-F between 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., staff meeting Mondays 2:30-4 p.m., and Tuesday evenings 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

Agency Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • This is a non-smoking worksite.
  • Must be able to pass extensive background check and drug test.
  • If in recovery, must have at least 2 years continuous sobriety.
  • Must have own reliable transportation, good driving record and be willing to transport clients in own car and agency vehicles occasionally.
  • Be able to lift 40lbs, sit on floor, climb stairs, manage physical labor of activities common to working with young children.
